Candle Care
So, you got yourself one of my hand-painted, wood-wicked, natural soy candles—good choice. Now, let’s make sure you’re treating it right. A well-cared-for candle lasts longer, burns cleaner, and keeps your space smelling amazing.
1. First Burn = The Most Important Burn
Think of your first burn like a first impression—it matters. Let your candle burn long enough for the melted wax to reach the edges of the jar (about 2–3 hours). This prevents that annoying “tunnel” effect where wax builds up on the sides and wastes all that good-smelling goodness.
2. Trim Your Wick Like It’s Self-Care
Wood wicks sometimes need a little grooming. If your flame is getting too tall, trim the wick to about 1/8 inch. This keeps the flame at the perfect height and prevents extra soot or crackling that sounds more like a mini bonfire than a cozy ambiance.
3. Keep It Clean
If you notice black soot on the jar, don’t panic—it just means the wick is too long. Wipe it clean and trim the wick before relighting. Also, keep your candle away from drafts, fans, and overly curious pets that think fire is fun.
4. Burn Time Matters
Candles need breaks too! Never burn for more than 4 hours at a time—it keeps the wax from overheating and losing its scent. Let it cool for a bit before lighting it again.
5. Don’t Let the Last Bit Go to Waste
Once your candle is down to about ½ inch of wax, it’s time to retire it. Burning it too low can overheat the jar. Instead, clean it out and reuse the jar for plants, jewelry, or a tiny secret stash of candy (I won’t judge).
A little care goes a long way when it comes to candles. Follow these tips, and your hand-painted beauty will burn brighter, longer, and without any of the mess. Now go ahead—light it up, relax, and enjoy.
